"I wanna be high, so high..." --Lionel Richie

I can distinctly remember a college suite-mate, junior year, saying that she wanted to take a shower and then plopping down on the sofa. When one of us asked her why she wasn't going to take her shower, she said, "I have to get psyched to get wet."

Really? You're 21 and a shower is too much for you? Gotta work up a plan? Maybe limber up in anticipation of those first droplets shocking your body? Get your head in the right state for the deluge? Do a few visualization practice showers? Or, maybe, start with a little water splashing in the sink, like the old ladies at the public pool?

This was also the same chick who had a bong hit before her first class. Every. Single. Day. Her major was early education. Yeah, teaching little kids.

Assuming she did get her teaching certificate, the kids she taught should be hitting the workforce right about now. It all starts to make sense, doesn't it...

When I was super depressed (not drunk, just depressed), I knew it had reached critical mass when it seemed like just too much work to take a shower. If I ever start feeling that way, I get a little scared that it's coming back, but I hop in anyway.

I remember as a little kid shower or bath day was dreaded--for some reason, getting wet (unless it was to go swimming in a pool!) and possibly soap in the eyes was to be avoided at all costs! Funny how now a hot shower or bath is something to look forward to.

Though waking up when it's cold out is still harsh...

I'm the opposite - I'm a shower junkie. I need an intervention, because I already take two showers a day (a.m. and p.m.) but I could seriously add a third one in there one of these days. Yeah, I need help. I just love, love, love the hot water!

Coulda been worse. She might have needed to get psyched to dry off after the shower.

If she taught them about showers, they should be easy to find.

I wonder, if she's a prinicpal or other administrator, does she feels guilty busting kids for doing what she did? I know I would, but that's just me.

Bong hit every day before class? What college student, especially elementary ed, has that much stress?

When I was a kid, I dreaded to get in the shower. But once in, I dreaded even more to get OUT of the shower. I got over the first part, but not the second; there is nothing better that long, long looooong showers...

I knew kids in high school who smoked in the morning before school, and all I could think was, why?

The only time I need motivation to take a shower is if I'm just exhausted. But once I'm in, I don't want to get out.

I have the funny image of Spicolli and the other guys in Fast Times getting out of the van with all the pot smoke coming out of it.

A shower is to me what coffee is to others. I LOVE a long, hot shower. I could never live in a drought state.

As for your suite-mate, she's just the tip of the iceberg about what's wrong with so many young people today. That said, though, and not to sound like a stogy old fart, I'm completely sure they're taking us to hell in a handbasket.

Occasionally, I meet a well-educated, articulate, hardworking young person and I have hope. Most of all, I have hope that today's young people will lead us to a place where equally is a given, not a legislated must.

Here's hoping...

Stodgy. That should have said stodgy. Not stogy. Ugh. I'm going to bed.

I knew a guy in university who was EXACTLY the same! I hope he didn't go into early education though...LOL

Maybe your roommate admired French culture and wanted to imitate the 1xweek shower rule.

I hate taking showers yet I do every day. It's the whole after shower thing where you got to dry your hair and put the makeup back on and get dressed. It's all so exhausting and takes stuff like effort and moving.

You're not supposed to get high before teaching kids? Huh, I learn something every day.

Yes, it all makes sense now. I sometimes worried about whether or not I would have a job when I got older. I thought that I might be replaced by a younger person with fresh ideas. Knowing that your former college friend is out there teaching kids gives me confidence that maybe I'll have a better chance at remaining employed.

That sounds about like my old roommate...

i think she may be my son's preschool teacher. And I'm pretty sure she still hits the bong every day before class. Don't even get me started on what is wrong with how kids are raised and educated today.

Kate: She wasn't depressed. She spent a lot of time giggling.

Brando, Titantia, Liebchen: Absolutely! I love me a hot shower or bath.

Drama Queen: Pruney is a good look on you.

Gilahi: True.

Mike: :)

Foggy Dew: Maybe she did hits with them.

Matt: :)

Rose, Hannah, Angela, kys, spleeness: There were/are a lot.

Zipcode: Ha! I remember FT@RH!

J.M. Tewkesbury: I'm guessing it should have been "equality", too...? Hope you got some sleep.

Little Ms Blogger: There's a good question: how often is too often?

Toe: Wait, is that you, suite-mate? Forgive me, it never occurred to me that you'd actually be reading about yourself! So, um, how have you been?

Bowie Mike: Don't quit yet. There's hope.

Tina: You're raising your son so I'm not going to complain how kids are raised today. I don't know how parents manage.
