[Oy.]
I will be turning 50 on March 16th. Since I don't have a lot positive to say about that fact, I'll let the interwebs do my talking on why it's good to be 50...
The
50-ish wife comes up to her husband and says, 'So, Harvey. What do you
think of my new bra-less look? Does it make me look younger?'
'It does!' Harvey says. 'It pulls all the wrinkles out of your face!'
The Perks of Being Over 50
- Your supply of brain cells is finally down to manageable size.
- Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either.
- You sing along with elevator music.
- Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather service.
- You have a party and the neighbors don't even realize it.
- People call at 9 PM and ask, "Did I wake you?"
- People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.
- Things you buy now won't wear out.
- You can live without sex but not without glasses.
- You enjoy hearing about other peoples operations.
- You get into heated arguments about pension plans.
- You can eat dinner at 4 P.M.
- There is nothing left to learn the hard way.
- You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
- You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room.
- Your eyes won't get much worse.
- Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.
- You can't remember where you saw this list.
I've always heard how age doesn't show on men like it does on women. Uh...
Yeah?
Question du jour: Is age "just a number" or life's little way of bringing Nelson Muntz to life?

Happy Birthday! I hope this year is wonderful and your birthday is fantastic!
I think age is just a number. I'm in much better shape than I was 10 years ago. Although 10 years ago, I didn't have tendonitis. I have gray hairs but proportionate the the wisdom I've gained over the years. Embrace 50, you can totally rock it. The list of perks is hilarious (and true, I imagine)
Happy birthday!
I'm turning 50 myself in June, so this is great...I love the perks!
Happy Birthday in advance! You should have linked to SNL's skit, 'Grady Wilson: Fifty and Freaky'
Age is just a number. Period. When they say, "yeah but you can't (fill in the blank)". You say, "been there done that".
Happy Birthday! I've been on the shady side of 50 for a while and I can say that age is not just a number. If you've got big goals you'd better step up the pace and get more comfortable shoes while you're at it because your body will not be shy about letting you know when you've gone too far. That said, I was 60 the year I did my first century ride - 100 miles on the bike in one day. I was 62 when I picked up my stuff and moved across the country. This year I'm going to get a kayak. New things will happen and new ideas can still take up space in your mind if you let them. And I know you will!
I'll be 55 this year, and I just wanted to leave a comment to say... uh... something... what was it?
When my Mom turned 40, she received a birthday card that wished her a "Happy Fart-iest Birthday."
As you might imagine, my sister & I refused to let her forget this. So every year, it was "Happy Fart-i-first" and so on and so forth.
For TEN YEARS.
My Mom was so unbelievably happy to turn fifty.
(You still don't look a day over thirty-five!)
Happy birthday!! I'm SO posting that vid to my fb page when my time comes (I'm not that far behind). In the meantime, here are some quotes for you:
"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." ~Mark Twain.
"How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?" ~Satchel Paige
"You can't help getting older, but you don't have to get old." ~George Burns
"I don't feel old. I don't feel anything till noon. That's when it's time for my nap." ~Bob Hope
"Age is something that doesn't matter, unless you are a cheese."
~Billie Burke
"I'm not 40, I'm eighteen with 22 years experience." ~Author Unknown
"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty." ~Henry Ford
"At my age I do what Mark Twain did. I get my daily paper, look at the obituaries page and if I'm not there I carry on as usual." ~Patrick Moore
"A person is not old until regrets take the place of hopes and plans." ~Scott Nearing.
"When I was a boy the Dead Sea was only sick." ~George Burns
"Like many women my age, I am 28 years old." ~Mary Schmich
happy upcoming birthday!!
i'm headed to celebrate the 3rd annivsary of a friend's 30th birthday tonight myself... so you could always go that route. this is the 10th anniversary of your 40th! :)
I am of the "age is just a number" school. And you're only as old as you feel. Unless you look like Mick Jagger, which I'm sure you don't.
Have a very Happy Birthday!
Happy biiiirthdayyy! Can more blogging be your present...to us? *whispers* "just go with it"
Happy birthday! I just turned 48 - and I'm already relating to a lot of things on that list :)
*HUGS* Thanks, everybody! *waves cane affectionately*
Happy birthday and yes, age is just a number. People can do many wonderful things, regardless of their age. (Not sure I recommend doing those high kicks at 80 though. ;))
Happy birthday from the far side of 60 ... from which 50 looks pretty darned good, as I am sure you do as well. Best wishes for the next 50.
