A Quickie

We attend a party on Saturday playing throwback music. On the boombox (yes, boombox) we hear Dexy's Midnight Runners.

Friend: Can you believe he's playing "Come on Irene"?

Hubs: Actually, that's "Eileen". "Come on Eileen". I knew things were going downhill earlier when he started playing "She Blinded Me with Silence".

Me: Actually, that's "Science". "She Blinded Me with Science". I blind you with silence.

Hubs: I wish you did.

That's awesome; I wonder if they also played the "wrapped up like a douche, another rumor in the night" song. I loved that in the 80s.

Ah! This is music I LOVE, even when I rarely got lyrics right myself!

More parties need to play this anthem of trying to get girls named Eileen to take off their clothes.

Also, boomboxes? Awesome. I found mine just the other day with TAPES in them.

Oh no - now I have the "wrapped up like a douche" song in my head. Thanks. What does it really say anyway? I can never remember.

Sometimes Dr. M would be VERY happy if I blinded him with silence.

Which just proves no one really pays much attention to the words. They are just out there to help keep the beat.

The true test of that party would have been if they played any of Mike and the Mechanics?

I can't remember what they sang, but remember my neighbor loving their music and hearing it all the time.

@The Bug: You're welcome. :) Now I've got All I Need is a Miracle stuck in my head thanks to Little Ms Blogger.

They CLAIM it's "wrapped up like a deuce." I am pretty positive, however, that just told the censors that to get it played on the radio.

I remember the girl (I-lean?) running around bra-less in those overalls. Every teenage boy was glued to that vid, waiting for her boobs to flop out.

I don't understand. This sounds like a great party!

It's not "she blinded me with sirens?" Damn.

Like a deuce,
You know
Sherrola in the night.

Damn Kansas is great this time of year.
Just had a friggin tornado blow through here.
Sirens tried to go off in between power outages.
Heard some big boom out back and then the kitchen ceiling started leaking like crazy.
And we just painted everything in here, ceiling and all. Shit.
I’m not going outside to get in the cellar!
Trees blowing down and sheets of rain blowing sideways!

I miss the 80s! Did they also play Mister Mister and Duran Duran?

P.S. What is with all the double band names back then? LOL

Come On Eileen was an essential part of the Pitt frat party line-up. When that song came on, I knew it was time to throwing back the Milwaukee's Best.
