"I just want your extra time and your..." --Prince

Last weekend, we canceled our plans with friends because Hubs suggested some time in bed would be much preferable. Sexy, no?

Well, not exactly. He came down with a cold.

My mother: Stay away from him!

She's very compassionate that way.

Luckily, Dish was featuring a free preview weekend for HBO. In between bringing him juice and tissues, I took advantage of his weakened state to check out a bunch of chick flicks: (500) Days of Summer, Crush, The Time Traveler's Wife, and Love Happens. And in at least one of these--who can remember which--someone wakes up someone else and kisses them. You see it all the time in movies. "Good morning!" followed by a big ol' smooch. And every time I see this, I think Bleah! Morning breath! In the morning, my mouth tastes like something crawled in there and died.* But it doesn't seem to phase them a bit. Not even squinky faces. Ah, Hollywood.

Which brings us to the question of the day: Kissing before brushing of the teeth--sexy or gross? Or both?

* TMI? You know you still want me.

As long as it's not an open mouth kiss, and you're holding your breath, a quick peck is usually acceptable.

But one of us always has to pee right when we wake up.

Gotta love reality versus movie love.

A quick peck is fine. But I'm very crabby and out of it when I first wake up, so generally the best course of action is to hand me a cup of coffee and back away slowly.

It's gross. Really gross.

Being in the PNW and doing business with WA DC we have to get up at 4.30am here. Nothing happens that doesn't involve stumbling around in search of coffee. Now that we've added two puppies to the mix, well you can just imagine.

Ack! No! Morning kissing is absolutely disgusting. I won't let Mr. Mystery TALK near me before he brushes his teeth, never mind kissing. Vomit.

I would have to go with gross!

Any of those movies you would recommend? I haven't seen any of them...sigh. I am so behind the times.

I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I love a kiss in the morning. No, maybe not all open mouth-y, but still something.

I'm with DC Princess - my first morning thought is to get to the bathroom as quickly as possible. THEN maybe a peck would be ok, but nothing of any consequence. Eww!

Depends on what kind of kissing you're talking about. If we kiss before our teeth are brushed, Brian and I kiss in what I refer to as the "old people" way -- tight-lipped and definitely NO tongue. A kiss on the cheek or forehead is also a good substitute. Of course, if he's pissing me off, screw the kiss -- I'll just blow my hot morning breath on him. :)

In the movies they are always so overcome by passion that they can't smell each other's bad breath - I guess. I'm sure the actors brush their teeth beforehand.

lately..i may or may not have been in a situation where morning "kissing" has been taking place.... lets just say im (evidently) not the kind of girl that backs away from dirty raw sexy times.. who knew?

I am in complete agreement with you on this one. My mouth and the way it feels to me is the larger impediment. Which is not to suggest that there have never been exceptions, sometimes pleasant exceptions, even.

I want to taste a real mouth, not peppermint toothpaste. Is that weird? I suppose if the real mouth had halitosis it might be another story.

chick flicks - That would cure me instantly.

I'm surprised my morning breath doesn't melt my teeth. I couldn't possibly kiss my beloved before brushing. With a giant brush. And a Costco-sized tube of toothpaste washed down with a 55-gallon drum of mouthwash.

Ehh, a snuggle and a kiss on the forehead isn't so awful as to make me want to run away. Might need a quick drink of water if anything more substantial is involved.

Depends. I'd say my preference would be to brush teeth first.

I don't mind a bit of kissing before brushing, but gargling with mouthwash is usually in order after awhile.

Morning breath is the worst. I don't even like the Hubs breathing on me during the night that's why I wedge a pillow between my head and his. He calls it the Lustguard 2000. But really it's the bad breath filter.

I always give and get morning kisses (not full-blown making out ones, more like pecks). I only have a problem if one has brushed and one hasn't - cause only then do you notice the morning breath.

I'd say sexy AND Gross! A little harmless nastiness never did anybody a lasting injury.

What I always wonder about in movies is how women can wander around without a purse. They're always walking around with nothing slung over their shoulder.

Where do they keep their keys, wallet, lipstick, cel phone?

I go with gross. It's about as comfortable as having sex when you have to pee.

All: Thanks for weighing in! I had no idea you'd be all over the map!

Drama Queen: Not especially. They were all fine but none of them were spectacular. If you get them for free, like I did, then, sure, watch!

Mike: It did the trick. He's fine now.
