"She thinks my tractor's sexy" --Kenny Chesney

[I googled funny sexy and that's what I got.]

First, let me take care of business and announce the winner of the All-Clad. My lovely assistant will reveal the name chosen via a random number generator and hermetically sealed in a mayonnaise jar on Funk & Wagnall's porch since noon*...

Oh my gosh! How exciting! Congratulations, Bethany! Send me your address at lacochran812@gmail.com to claim that fantastic prize from CSN Stores!

And now on to today's topic...

Hubby and I are watching a movie.

Hubby, noticing how engrossed I am: Do you think he's good looking?

Me, considering: Not particularly, no. ...But I do think he's sexy.

From my vantage, there are good looking people and there are sexy people and there are good looking, sexy people and then, there's everyone at the DMV. You know, all those tragically creepy people that wind up in line with you at the DMV and you think "Yeah, that's plenty close enough."

Clearly, it helps to be attractive if you're going for the sexy card, but, to my way of thinking, sexy is more about confidence and intensity. There are plenty of pretty, pretty princes and princesses that aren't the least bit sexy to me. In fact, if they're too pretty, I think it detracts. Your Bond players display this beautifully. Most people opt for Sean Connery or Daniel Craig over prettier but less intense Pierce Brosnan or Timothy Dalton.

But these are just my thoughts. Questions du jour: Are attractive and sexy the same to you? Is there such a thing as too pretty?

I always thought that attractive/pretty and sexy were not the same thing. Tom Cruise is pretty, but he's no sexier than a pair of Crocs. Javier Bardem is sexy.

I'm definitely with you. Usually, if I find someone sexy, I do also find him attractive, but they're not necessarily the same thing.

definitely. orlando bloom is pretty; he is not sexy. ryan reynolds is both pretty AND sexy :-)

All the other people at the DMV. Holy! That was funny! And yes, attractive is different than sexy in my book. You can have both, but if someone's sexy I usually deem them attractive because of that magnetism.

Traveling back to the cave woman days - sexy, a male you want to have sex with, needs to be strong, aggressive and dependable (call that intense) because a pretty boy might not be able to save your pregnant self from a saber tooth tiger.

I think this whole topic explains Russell Crowe. Pretty? Um, no. Sexy to lots of people? Yeppers. I only like his voice - I don't really get the sex appeal myself - but lots of other people sure do!

I can't pass on 5 shiny blog points: Johnny Carson's Carnac the Magnificent. I don't think Carnac was sexy or good looking, but he was funny.

I think that there are plenty of "pretty on the outside" guys and gals, but if they don't have character, brains and a great personality, then they are nowhere near to being sexy.

They are two very different things. And, yes, there is such a thing as too pretty. I don't trust too pretty people.

Anyone can be sexy if they have IT. Doesn't matter what they look like.

Sexy is definitely different that pretty or attractive. Sexy is who a person IS rather than how they look.
Pretty = Barbie = barf

They're not the same to me...

I think Adam Lambert is really sexy, even though I do not find him particularly attractive.

Liz Mays said...

I think the two things can be separated also!

There is no such thing as too pretty. Ever.

Sexy- totally different to attractive. Attractive carries no hormonal interludes. Attractive is subjective.

Sexy is a lot about personal confidence, with a good mix of strength and tenderness. Now how's that for a convoluted definition? It goes much deeper than surface beauty. A lot of the really pretty ones are too narcissistic to be sexy!

Not sure how to answer this because I don't mind being called either, really.

Matt said...

I dont know, attractive or sexy- its all the same to me. Either you would or you wouldn't... you know?

Lemon Gloria said...

Yes, definitely different. Sometimes the most surprising people are sexy to me. And I don't know about the too pretty. I have to think about that.

Have you seen Kissing Jessica Stein? There's a whole scene where the main characters discuss "Sexy Ugly" people.

They mention Angelica Huston and Harvey Keitel. I'd throw in Illeana Douglas and Juanes (Colombian singer). Not attractive people per se, but very compelling and sexy.

I think sexy and pretty are different also. Like sexy = hot for bod whereas pretty = I just like to look at you but you'd probably be really bad in the sack. And too pretty = entire cast of men of Twilight all too pretty.

5 shiny points for me for being old.

Yes there is such a thing as too pretty. Definitely. Think Sean Connery as James Bond. He became much more attractive in middle age. Now? Not so much.

Sexy is chemistry, has nothing to do with looks.

Oliveira: I never understood the Cruise charisma either.

Liebchen: Right.

Alice: Orlando Bloom is very pretty and not sexy at all to me.

Kate, Pauline, repliderium.com: Interesting nuance, thanks.

froggy: Makes sense.

The Bug: Apparently but I'm with you... I don't get it.

Bowie Mike: *tosses blog points*

Maya: You don't trust me?! I kid, I kid.

Annie: He's definitely got something.

blueviolet: Thanks for weighing in.

Bethany: My pleasure! Enjoy!

Lori, Reya Mellicker: Attractive is subjective but sexy is not because it's hormonal/chemistry? Interesting slant.

Barbara: Ah, the Lyle Waggoner factor.

Moooooo35: *snort*

Matt: My personal theory is that to most men it is less distinct than to most women. Thanks for weighing in.

Lemon Gloria: I know what you mean about surprising.

Shannon: Compelling is a good word. And Harvey Keitel in The Piano? I get that.

Brutalism: OOooo, Andy Garcia!

Toe: Ha! So true.

Mike: Nope. Not only are you old but you're slow. Bowie Mike beat you to it.
